“ 나의 작업은 불안과 고독을 견뎌내는 일상과 도자기를 빚는 과정을 동일시하면서 시작한다. 도자기를 빚는 오랜 과정에 집중하다 보면 나를 짓누르는 삶의 그늘이 옅어지기도 하였다. 하지만 결국 내가 맽어내는 것들은 쓰다 버린 일회용품이나 이름 없는 잡초처럼 보잘것없는 것들의 허물뿐이다. 작업의 소재에서 오는 쓸모없은은 긴 시간이 소요되는 작업 과정과 대조되어 그 무용함이 더욱 강조된다. 우리의 일상도, 나의 작업도 그렇게 의미 없는 긴 호흡의 습관처럼 느껴졌다. 이러한 자조적인 정서에서 출발하여 나는 종종 후미진 뒷골목의 풍경이나 버려진 물건들을 오랫동안 바라보게 되었다.
